Why Pilates can surprise you

Slow, controlled work can challenge small stabilizing muscles that may not get the same attention in other workouts. A class can feel manageable in the moment and still leave you aware of your core, glutes, or shoulders the next day.

What helps

Gentle walking, easy mobility, water, food, and sleep can support recovery. You do not need to “work the soreness out” with another intense session. Give the same muscle group time if normal movement feels uncomfortable.

Know when it is not ordinary soreness

Sharp pain, swelling, weakness, numbness, or pain that keeps getting worse is not the same as routine muscle soreness. Stop the aggravating movement and seek qualified medical guidance when symptoms are significant or persistent.
