Lisbon is a friendly first Europe trip
Lisbon gives you historic neighborhoods, viewpoints, pastries, seafood, nightlife, and easy day trips without requiring a complicated multi city itinerary. English is common in tourism settings and the city has enough structure to feel manageable for a first overseas trip.
You can also add Sintra or a coastal stop without moving hotels every night.
London or Paris if you want the classic first trip
These cities are popular for a reason. They have major museums, recognizable landmarks, strong public transportation, endless restaurants, and enough activities to fill a week without needing a car.
The tradeoff is cost. Flights, hotels, and meals can add up quickly, so the best first trip is sometimes the one you can afford comfortably.

Costa Rica if nature matters more than cities
Costa Rica works when you want beaches, rain forest, wildlife, hot springs, and adventure. The trip can feel very international while still being built around nature rather than museums and urban sightseeing.
Choose one or two regions instead of trying to cross the entire country in a week.
Aruba if you want an easy warm weather win
Aruba can be a low stress first passport trip. English is widely spoken, resorts are easy to navigate, the beaches are beautiful, and you can choose between a simple resort stay and a rental car adventure around the island.
It is a good first step if you want to use the passport without jumping straight into a long haul trip.
Japan if you want the trip to feel completely new
Japan is farther and requires more planning, but it can be an amazing first big international trip for travelers who love food, cities, design, shopping, and cultural experiences.
Tokyo and Kyoto can give you two very different sides of the country without forcing you to plan a dozen stops.
